New Year's Resolutions for Your Pet (and YOU!)

February 11, 2016, 3:08 pm

Mount Tabor Animal Hospital, Winston-Salem NC

It's February… so, how are you doing on those new year resolutions? If you're like most of us, you've had a slip up here and there, and maybe you're thinking about reinitiating your goals for the new year. As you regroup, don't forget about your pets! Here are a few ways you can include your pets in your new year resolution reboot:

  • Daily Groom Time When you brush your pet regularly, not only does it help to remove excess fur from the coat, it also helps distribute oils from the skin to the fur, which can help keep your pet's coat healthy and shiny. It's also a great bonding activity that you can share with your pet.
  • Good Oral Hygiene Take steps to help your pet's oral hygiene this year! There are certainly ways that you can do this at home, but did you know, February and November are pet dental months at Mount Tabor Animal Hospital? If you have multiple pets, or are looking for a way to save money on pet dental services, be sure to take advantage of these limited time specials. Appointments fill up fast, so make sure you give us a call to schedule a dental exam and cleaning for your pet(s).
  • Teach an Old Dog a New Trick Keep your senior dog healthy by keeping your pet's brain active! Does your dog know a few tricks? Practice them on a regular basis to keep those neurons firing. Better yet, teach your old dog a NEW trick. This is a great activity for your dog AND you. Puzzle feeders are another good option to keep your pet's mind engaged by rewarding them with a treat for solving the puzzle.
  • Update Pet ID Information When was the last time you updated your pet's ID tag or microchip information? Have you moved and/or changed your phone number since then? It's easy to forget to update your pet's ID information when that happens. Get this information updated sooner rather than later. If you get separated from your pet, it could make the difference between staying lost, or being reunited!
  • Come to The Rescue Many local animal shelters and rescue organizations NEED safe, loving homes for pets. If you're not sure whether you're ready for the commitment of full-time pet ownership, consider fostering. It's the perfect way to test the waters of pet ownership while pets wait for their forever-home. Follow Mount Tabor Animal Hospital on Facebook to get regular updates about pets in the area who need loving, forever homes.

Call us today and schedule an appointment for your pet. We'd love to talk to you about some of these goals, and do whatever we can to help you and your pet have a wonderful new year!

Hear From Our Customers!

"Can't say enough good things about these people. Knowledgeable staff. And they really care about your non human family members. We've had a rough time with our dogs lately and the outpouring of compassion and love from everyone here has been overwhelming. They have earned our business, but more importantly they have earned our trust and love in return." - 5-star Google Review from Jon Gee
